“A great book. One that asks in just a few pages what freedom can mean.”
Simone Meier, watson
“Three years after his father's death, the Basel theater maker is tearing down the fourth wall between himself and his subjects.”
Stephan Reuter, Basler Zeitung
“Very subtle, very differentiated and thoughtful. Boris Nikitin starts out from the story of his father's death and comes to very far-reaching and reflected thoughts about the relationship between inside and outside, about how we construct the world and what it does to us. The evening is theoretically very precise. But first and foremost it is also very touching.”
Andreas Klaeui, Schweizer Rundfunk

One year after his father's death, author and director Boris Nikitin begins to write the story of his father's ALS disease. The disease had made short work: from diagnosis to death it takes almost a year. Very early on, the father opens the thought of considering assisted suicide, an EXIT. A statement that changes everything.

In "Attempt on Dying" Nikitin combines the story of this outing with the story of his own coming-out twenty years ago and develops from it a radical and at the same time intimate text about what it means to make the step into the public eye.
