“In a smart and atmospheric theatrical space, the students of Giessen show laconically that talking about (an in) theatre can become theatre.”
Theater heute
“Nikitin has found a fresh access to a play that is mostly covered by its classicity.”
Theater der Zeit
“The way Nikitin deals with Buchners classic is unusual and worth seeing.”

A play as a performance art and at the same time as a total illusion that goes beyond the edges of the staging - right up to the audience discussion as a deceptive manoeuvre. After four years of collective experimentation, "Woyzeck" - which toured for six years - is Boris Nikitin's first own directorial and authorial work and also his first collaboration with the performer Malte Scholz and the sound artist Matthias Meppelink.
The play is not a new adaptation of Büchner's famous drama - it merely borrows the title and the question of culpability from it - but an attempt to create a new theatre language of his own.
Created while he was still a student in Giessen, the work already contains the essential elements of Nikitin's theatre: the essayistic, the black box as a stage set, the play with the real and the documentary infected by the possibility of falsification, the supposedly raw and sketchy that turns out to be a precise staging, the dreamlike question of identity and reality.

Of central importance for the play is the performance by Malte Scholz, who, as a tipping figure between himself and a possible Woyzeck and with a fearless acting and improvisation ability, not only lends the evening an idiosyncratic character, but also becomes the content himself.

In 2009 "Woyzeck" was invited as one of ten outstanding independent production of 2007/2008 to the festival "Impulse".
